Unfortunately, I've been rather under the weather since Thursday night. I hoped it'd pass, and now I think it is, but I haven't had the mental energy to write anything creative.

However, I managed to gather a few interesting posts from the last week to share with you:

It's a lovely Labor Day weekend in the mid-Atlantic. I'm spending it with family--celebrating my birthday (and my sister's) a week early, going to a baby shower for my cousin. It's warm but has the freshness of impending fall. Once again, I find myself wishing I could spend the autumn months here in north Delaware or back at college in Pennsylvania. Living in such an urban area, I miss the constant presence of fall foliage and then of bare trees on gray days stretched out for miles over hills.

Back in June, a group of PF bloggers started a weight loss/fitness challenge which took us through the end of July. Some people dropped out, but most of us soldiered on despite vacations, moving, and busy schedules. I'm particularly proud of my team, Gamma team, for all sticking with it to the end.

I found the challenge at times motivating and at times frustrating. It was good to have other people encouraging me, it was good to have a reason to keep at it. Except for a week's vacation, I fulfilled at least half my self-challenge. My goal was to run/elliptical 3 times a week and to lift weights 5 days a week.

Baking Soda Really Is Good For Everything Roundup

Is there anything you can't use baking soda for? It's like some kind of cure-all! This week I tried out baking soda in a new context--as an exfoliant. I got the idea from Frugal Urbanite, who's found it very useful in improving her skin and treating acne. It seems to work nicely. The baking soda isn't too abrasive, it washes off nicely without leaving a reside or blocking pores, and my skin looks a bit fresher.

After wetting my face, I put about 1/4 tsp in my hand and drip water onto it until it forms a paste. Then I exfoliate in circles and wash it off with my Dove Sensitive Skin soap. Chalk up another victory for baking soda.

This genie is willing to grant 3 financial do-overs. These aren't wishes for more money, just do-overs of financial decisions (one-time or long-term) you now regret.

This week I finally finished a project I've been dancing around for the last couple years. It's a quilt that I started piecing my final year of college but I decided I disliked something about the borders and never ended up quilting it. I finally dug it out and made some tough calls a few months back, took off the borders, and started the quilting.

I finished it on Thursday and now only have to bind the edges. The quilt is an All Hallows Variation. You can see an image of one here (I used the exact same colors) and if you're an interested quilter, the pattern is here.

Now on to personal finance posts of the week:

I had almost forgotten that today was Palm Sunday as I spent Friday night & Saturday wrapped up in a large project. This is an exciting one for me, as I made the decision earlier this spring to join the church I've been attending--if they'll have me. It's a fantastic place, Welcoming, I feel at home there like no other church I've attended. The decision has made attending much more meaningful--though I should probably tell the pastors that I did decide, haven't found the right time yet and know there'll be an opportunity later this spring.
