Last weekend, the old mrsmicah.com underwent some big changes. First, I installed a new version of the theme. It’s Thesis-based, though I’m still not a huge proponent of the Thesis theme I thought it advantageous for a few reasons. You’ll see it looks almost identical to the old theme. And once I got the theme working, I put the site in an 18-wheeler I’d rented for the occasion and moved it over to financefreelancelife.com. Then I put up a change of address notice at the old place (301 Redirect, to be precise).
It was too intense a job to be bittersweet, but I woke up Monday morning feeling a little sad. I had a number of reasons for making the move, mostly involving branding. And while I think it was the right choice, there’s a part of me that has good memories of the old domain–even if that’s sillier than having good memories of some tangible object. I’m still Mrs. Micah, your writer & host.
For readers, nothing should change. The feed from the site is still the same and while you probably got one big blast this morning, it should update as usual from now on. If you do run into any issues, I’d appreciate it if you let me know so I can correct them. Of other bloggers, especially those on self-hosted WordPress, I have a favor to ask.
For Bloggers
A simple blogroll link change would be helpful. If you’ve got about 5 minutes and are willing to take an extra step, then perhaps you could use the Search Regex plugin (available through WordPress’s backend installation) to find & replace links to mrsmicah.com.
For those familiar with the plugin, a simple find & replace of mrsmicah.com with financefreelancelife.com should cover both WWW and non-WWW instances. A content search will cover all linkbacks, if you feel like going a little farther, then a comment author URL search would cover the times I’ve commented as well. I put together a step-by-step with a screenshot here.
I’m asking in hopes that the updated links will add to the strength of the 301 redirect and help Google recognize this new site and get it indexed and ranked back where it was faster. I greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to do it.

Congratulations on the new home! I used the search regex plugin (thanks for the tip) and updated all my links to you, including those within the 100 comments (now 101, as I just saw) you’ve posted on Consumerism Commentary over the years.

Who came up with the term “plug-ins” first, interwebs people or Glade?
That’s what I want to know.
@Darling Micah you are silly. 😉 But thanks for testing the comments on the new site. And I’ll get back to you on the Glade thing.
@Flexo greatly appreciated! And how cool is it that the numbers came out so evenly?
Nice job on the new site. Big changes can be scary at times but they are almost always well worth the effort.

Congrats on the successful move! I’ll be going through the same process soon, but no one links to me anyway so it won’t be as big a deal. 🙂

I had a “fatal” error with the plug-in so manually updated the links. Now to figure out what killed it.
Congrats on the new domain!
