Yesterday I got an amazing early Christmas present. My donation coordinator called on the 23rd with great news:
- The patient’s body accepted the transplant and it’s working.
- The patient has been home from the hospital for 2 weeks now.
- The recovery is going as well as expected.
This is really the best I’d hoped and prayed for. The only thing that could be better, I guess, would be if the patient were recovering even better than expected.
So I am feeling very merry this Christmas and I wish the same to you and yours!
And if you’d like to join the National Marrow Donor Program registry you can sign up online and they’ll mail you a kit for a simple cheek swab. It’s that easy to get involved (though it’s not easy to donate, but incredibly worthwhile).

Congrats Mrs. Micah! You’re truly an inspiration! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Last weekend, while shopping in the mall getting nowhere, I saw UMass Memorial Hospital signing people up for the bone marrow registry. I signed up. Hopefully, I will match someone. It was the most productive part of my shopping trip.

That’s fantastic to hear; it’s good your donatee is doing so well. Hopefully, your donation will lead to a long, healthy life for the patient. A very merry Christmas to you and everyone who is so giving of themselves.
