Donation Update and Merry Christmas!

Yesterday I got an amazing early Christmas present. My donation coordinator called on the 23rd with great news:

  1. The patient’s body accepted the transplant and it’s working.
  2. The patient has been home from the hospital for 2 weeks now.
  3. The recovery is going as well as expected.

This is really the best I’d hoped and prayed for. The only thing that could be better, I guess, would be if the patient were recovering even better than expected.

So I am feeling very merry this Christmas and I wish the same to you and yours!

And if you’d like to join the National Marrow Donor Program registry you can sign up online and they’ll mail you a kit for a simple cheek swab. It’s that easy to get involved (though it’s not easy to donate, but incredibly worthwhile).

Last weekend, while shopping in the mall getting nowhere, I saw UMass Memorial Hospital signing people up for the bone marrow registry. I signed up. Hopefully, I will match someone. It was the most productive part of my shopping trip.

Here’s hoping the patient has a superb New Year and many more to come. You, too!

That’s fantastic to hear; it’s good your donatee is doing so well. Hopefully, your donation will lead to a long, healthy life for the patient. A very merry Christmas to you and everyone who is so giving of themselves.
