This Thanksgiving morning, I find myself thankful:
- …that my cousin’s newborn survived open heart surgery last week and is doing well;
- …that both my parents lasted another year, despite surgeries and hospitalizations;
- …that my bone marrow stem cell donation was successful, despite what my donor rep called “an unusual number of complications”;
- …that I’ve got such a great husband who helps me rescue cats, takes care of me when I’m sick, and displays extraordinary amounts of patience and love in difficult situations;
- …that my sister got into a great grad program and moved to DC;
- …that I still have a job;
- …that I like my job;
- …that I have better prospects for grad school because I scored so highly on the GRE;
- …that I have great readers who stick around even though I take a month off to do donation, GRE prep, & National Novel Writing Month;
- …that I only tore a ligament in my foot Tuesday and didn’t break a bone;
- …that I have decent enough insurance to cover the ER visit;
- …that I live close enough to my family to see them regularly;
- …that I have lovely friends who helped me out with food and such after the donation;
- …that we can live off my income and save Micah’s + consulting for debt repayment & the future;
- …and that I didn’t kill myself all those years ago.
Of course, that’s just what’s on my mind this morning.

I’m especially happy about the last, Principessa mia. The world (my world, at least) would be bleaker without you. XOXOXOXOXO
So many great things to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!
You are God’s gift to us in the hinterlands and to everyone in your family who loves you. It’s for young people like you that the rest of us are thankful.
