My husband and I were wowed by the new Star Trek film. As a Trekkie (especially in my teens) I was relieved that it was so much better than Nemesis or Insurrection, which both made it seem like the franchise movies were doomed. Besides being a good film, this Star Trek has the advantage of being something you could watch without having seen any Trek before it.
Watching the movie left me feeling something I hadn’t felt in years and years–I wanted to watch The Original Series (TOS). Despite Shatner’s corniness, the bad sets, the crazy sets and plots, everything that had made me switch to the later Treks, I want to see them again.
Last weekend, on a visit to my parents’ house, I absconded with the VHS tapes of TOS, DS9 (Deep Space 9), and VOY (Voyager). My sister and I went halvsies on them, so I figure I can take temporary custody.* However we only bought the TOS episodes that we liked the best–Trouble With Tribbles, Naked Time, etc. That’s great, but I want to see the whole series.
Good news for me and for anyone who’s in the mood to rewatch the original Star Trek or who’s inspired by the movie to get around to watching it, CBS has put the entire Original Star Trek online in a hulu-like format.
No work yet on whether or not other Trek series’ will be made available online. It’s unlikely to happen soon, as some are still in re-runs. But I hope that someday they’ll start putting the others online so I can catch up with the ones I missed, as it’s difficult to catch the reruns.
Fun fact you didn’t know about Mrs. Micah: I have a Star Trek DS9 uniform. Or I did, I might have gotten rid of it. I haven’t worn it in a while. My boss says maybe I shouldn’t share that. 🙂
*Sis, if you want those tapes back, just let me know.

Mrs. Micah, I saw the title and immediately thought that the new movie was online for some reason (legally, of course.) Silly on my part, I know.
I wouldn’t mind catching up on TOS, but I was a bit more excited when I thought it was the movie.
So, thanks for the update and spike in heart rate.

We’ve got TOS on DVD (yup, all of it!) and are slowly making our way through. I can’t get enough of the cheese!

TOS > Everything
Just stating the truth.
(Don’t feel bad about the costume, it’s people like you who keep me in business.)

You just made my day! I, too, have a wild desire to return to my Trekkie roots after seeing the latest installment.

How about showing a picture of you wearing the costume? I’m a big fan too.
@Scott, sorry to disappoint. I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying the DCD when it comes out! 🙂
@Christine, I’m not surprised. I might like to get DS9 on DVD, watch it as a unit, and then resell it.
@FrugalUrbanite, we must talk more about this….I’m actually thinking about doing a TOS/movie women’s uniform. Strictly for home purposes…I don’t think I’m brave enough to wear something that short out.
@Miranda, I’m quite impressed that they got me wanting this. Well done, Mr. Abrams!
@Glenn, lol, no. I don’t have any pics, actually.
