Good morning, all. I apologize for how slow my site has been in the last couple weeks. I’ve been having some problems with Dreamhost, which served me well for the last year or so but has been problematic in the last few weeks.
This morning, I discovered that a site I built last week has completely disappeared. I had noticed that, other than posts, any changes I’d made to financefreelancelife.com and hire.financefreelancelife.com in the last week had disappeared. It wasn’t big stuff, mostly little theme tweaks. However having an entire site disappear is much more serious.
I’m talking with Dreamhost about what we’re going to do about all this. I have some backups, but not the most recent changes.
I think I’m going to migrate to LunarPages. No shared hosting site is perfect, but I know that LunarPages works well for some of my friends.
The site may be up and down a bit over the next few days. I’m going to try to make the migration as smooth as possible, but I’m also feeling a bit of a time crunch because I don’t want anything worse to happen. I’m also very grateful for all the backups I’ve run, though it seems like the actual posts and pages aren’t being affected by whatever this is.
It’ll be more of a challenge to move the Finwikian, so I’m going to work on that after I’ve moved my other sites.
Thank you for sticking with me through the slowdown in the last few weeks and for the rest. I hope to have everything fixed within a week.

Ok, that explains it. I lost three or four plugins over the weekend (back now, but…). Hope the switchover goes well & you’ll let me know I’m sure anything I need to know on this end.
Losing an entire website?! I wouldn’t know what to say… but I would have serious reservations about continuing to use their hosting platform.
Good choice on LunarPages. I use them and am quite happy with their service so far. π
Whoa, I hope the transition goes smoothly.
Ohh, I am eager to know what you think of LunarPages. I too am on Dreamhost…and my site has being up and down like the stock markets. Not fun. π
Lunarpages has been flawless for me so far. I was able to get a good deal from a referral + rebate via paypal since the referee got good commission.
Add me to the list of those currently with Dreamhost and looking to jump ship! I hope you write about your transition for those of us that are thinking of doing the same.
Also, have you posted before about how you do backups for yourself (ie certain services/products you use)? I’ve been meaning to research options but would prefer to read about it from a source I trust π
What a frustration! Hope you get it settled down and moved without too much hassle.
