Thank you for the tips. I want to make sure my children are responsible with money. I also found the book, "Wealthy Child: Financial Success for the Children in Your life" very good.

There is a synopsis at www.growwealthy.com

My parents have always been a great influence as far as money goes. They are super frugal (much more so than I am - and I'm pretty darn frugal!) and can stretch a dollar a long way. They had a mortgage on their first two houses (in the early 70s) but bought their third house with cash, and have done the same with the 14 houses they've owned since. About four years ago, they bought two new cars - until then they were driving two 1974 cars that they just kept fixing. They live well below their means. They put everything on a single credit card and pay it off every month, just like my husband and I do. They only shop in thrift stores. The list goes on and on, but basically they taught me a lot about money. I want to be the same sort of influence for our son.

I wish FICO had done this a while ago, as when I met my wife she had bad credit. We have fixed it over the years, but if she could have attached her score to mine, it would not have taken so long!

We didn't always manage to carry out our principles as well as we should have; so, I'm all the happier you deduced them so well and have gone on to learn much more about PF than I ever knew.
