Well, the economic stimulus will be coming earlier than expected. Direct deposits begin on April 29th. We’ll be receiving them based on the last two digits of our social security numbers. Mine’s in the 00-20 group.
The IRS website hasn’t yet updated their schedule, so I’m not sure if they’re doing it all on 3 days (based on the three groupings of SSNs) or if some rebates will be coming next week. But you can bet I’ll be keeping an eye on my bank account this week.
This Sunday, we’ll be checking out a computer…one we found second-hand which looks like it would be just right for Micah and is much cheaper ($350) than a new one. The seller is living in a studio apartment with another person and just doesn’t have space, so he’s using a laptop instead and getting rid of the desk and the desktop. We just have to see it to make sure. I’m hoping this will be one of those times when Micah’s computer science degree comes in handy.
If we like it Sunday, we’ll buy it then, since we got the tax refund already and are holding onto it until the stimulus rebate arrives.
It’s particularly exciting because it means that the rest of the rebate money can go to debt repayment as we originally planned. Once it arrives, we’ll sort out the numbers and I’ll let you know what’s going where.
And Micah will (I hope) be able to write his dissertation without constant computer freezing. T’will be a happy day indeed!

I know the one time that the government is on time is the time that it counts!!! Too bad that i already spent that money.
I think we will be able to put the whole thing into our emergency fund.(Crosses fingers) Stay away Murphy.
@Roman – I am betting that most americans have done the same. Either way – it should help get the economy moving again.
You should check your checking account! My SSN falls within the same range, and mine was posted to my checking account on Friday night, the 25th (although the deposit date says April 28)
we will be into june before we get our rebate…but that is okay…it is going to savings no matter when it comes. personally i do not see how a big boost to the economy is gonna happen.
I have bought my last 3 laptops on eBay for under $300. I have gotten reconditioned Dells and I just pop the hard drive out of one and into the new one. That said, I am hard on laptops. They go back and forth to work with me and I am pretty sure dog hair is NOT good for them. Nor is bumping around in the car. My last two have been handed down to my teenage children.
Oh yeah – and mine JUST got deposited already!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeee…off the the Emergency Fund it goes.
yes i know. me = dork.
