This is AMAZING. I am totally doing this. I am currently rocking only two (!) pairs or stockings on an everyday basis, so I need to wash them often. I tend to just hand-wash my stockings in the sink with lukewarm water and some dish soap ('cause I'm awesome like that...?), but this is way better.

With shoes it is all about keeping them dry. Wet, dark and damp=the bacteria that smell. Rotate your shoes and they will last 4x as long.

This is why boys shoes in High school stink and girl don't tend to!

I did the non-frugal option for shoes and bought some of the Gold Bond shoe powder. It reduces perspiration and controls the smell.

For sandals in the summer, I fill them with rolled newspaper and leave them outside in the sun for an afternoon. It deoderizes really well.

The baking soda soak also works extremely well for teen-aged (and older) boys socks.
Putting your shoes out in the sun, opening them as wide as possible, can also help dispel odors.

I've heard that stuffing your shoes with old newspapers for a day or so helps (haven't tried it myself).
