One of the most thoughtful gifts we’ve received (and we’ve received a lot of thoughtful ones) was from my MIL. It’s a light therapy lamp which her psychological clinic wasn’t using any more. It helps with Micah’s seasonal affective disorder (now called major depressive disorder with seasonal variation). It also helps me when the weather gets dreary.

So on Tuesday, we spent a good hour with it turned on to overcome the cloudiness. Then just before sunset, the sun came out in the rain and we opened the windows to enjoy that gloriousness.

It’s roundup time!!

First, Jim of Getting Ahead in Life shares with us his inside knowledge of the grocery industry. He worked at a grocery store for years and has observations on everything from loss leaders to general merchandise. And there’s another post coming with more info.

Oxymoron33 and his wife have decided to say “have a nice day” to at least 6 people per day. I know interacting with friendly people often improves my mood! And being friendly towards others does too.

Paid Twice has made a fantastic turn-around from her ninja car bill. She may be able to pay it off entirely this month and pay off her credit too. Huge kudos there.

For some reason, I forgot to submit to carnivals this week. But the Carnival of Personal Finance is here at Green Panda Treehouse. It looks really good!

In particular, here’s a list Bootstrapper put together of 50 tools for freelancers during tax season. This could be very useful. And speaking of that, H&R Block is supposed to be giving free tax advice through the end of the month. Questions answered, anyway. And apparently Kiplingers is having a free service day too on Friday the 25th.

This photo may have actually been taken yesterday in DC at that same sunset I mentioned. That’s given tags and upload time and the rainbow, which fits in about right.

I use one of those too. We gets months of pretty much nonstop rain in our winers here, instead of beautiful winter snow and/or sun. Can’t tell if the lamp helps but I figure it can’t hurt either. That’s great that you got one as a gift; mine was a gift (hand me down) too.

Thanks for the mention.

I also suffer from SADS. We have installed full spectrum lights all around our house. It helps. Recently we found full spectrum CFLs. Help and save $$$. Cool!
