(We don't need to mention names, do we?) They have it set up so that if you get internet in connection with any other service, you get a discount. So even if you drop your cable tv down to Just Basic Service, whatever the cheapest cable package is in your area, you'll get a discount on the internet. I had a similar problem when I went to give up the cable TV. My solution may not be feasible for you. I live in a college town with wireless connections galore. I simply approach my neighbors and offered to pay half of their internet cost for access to their wireless signal. So far there's been no problem - we both get cheaper internet this way. We should look into that. :) One thing I'll have to check out in this area, Raymond, is the other providers. When we moved in we found it was pretty much a Comcast monopoly. But you may be right - getting local/basic tv may be the best deal over the long haul. Ours ends in March. Depending on how high our bill is in April, the spouse and I might have some talking to do.
