Ways that I improved my mood today (frugally)

While I was feeling somewhat better last night, I spent time today intentionally doing things to improve my mood.

First, (inspired by Fabulously Broke) I put on one of my fancier dresses, pulled out my violin and had a go at the Bach Double. I threw in Meditation from Thais for extra fun.

Second, I decided to make myself smile by going through Punny Money‘s archives. It worked quite well, I’d recommend it.

Third, I worked on a the turkey Halloween costume. I’ve already been paid the $50, but I consider it untouchable until I get the costume done. Very much fun! Good way to exercise my creativity.
Fourth, I watched two Simpsons reruns.

Fifth, I took a walk with Mr. Micah

Sixth, I watched America’s Funniest Home Videos. Actually, I’m watching that as I write.

Cost? $0

Mood? Very good.

My tips for feeling happier?

1) Pull out a project you love, or start a new one. Find something fun you haven’t done in a while. Be creative.

2) Read/watch/listen to/do something that makes you laugh. Laughing is really good for the soul.

These won’t cure depression, nor will they take the place of therapy (if you need it). But they’re a valuable way to take control of your situation and feel better.

Edit: I just remembered that last night Mr. Micah and I kicked this off by watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Lots of laughs there.

You’re right about working on projects you love and doing something that makes you laugh… I also find it helpful to get up and make a change in my situation. Sometimes that entails removing clutter, going to a new location, or trying something new. If I feel that I am taking an active positive to improve my mood, it generally helps [me] considerably.

I’m glad that you’re feeling better, and those are some great ideas. I like to go ‘stumbling’ online as I’ve humour as one of my categories – I just love the randomness of it. I also like to read a really good book.

Aww 🙂 Thanks for the mention. Makes me want to listen to it now and lose myself in it.

*nods*… On that same day (coincidentally)… I went on top of the mountain here in the city, and chilled out on the grass staring at the clouds..

Then I took a walk with Husband around the city just to get out with him.

Cost: $0..
