This is a frivolous sort of post, but dangit, I’ve found something I really really want. And it’s bloody expensive. *ahem*

Jeeves Alarm Clock

I’m a big fan of Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, be it their comedy sketches or their acting in the Jeeves and Wooster tv series. Big fan.

And I don’t like the alarm clock going off, particularly now that it means I have to get up and go to work. Especially since it’s the winter and the world is dark. Solution? Some genius came up with the Jeeves Alarm Clock. It has 50—50!!! phrases by Stephen Fry gently waking you up. Examples include

Excuse me sir, I’m so sorry to disturb you but it is morning, very inconvenient I agree. I believe it is the rotation of the earth which is to blame sir.

and

The world has been very anxious to hear from you for the last eight hours. Shall I inform the news agencies that you’re about to rise, sir?

(they also have a “madam version”). You can hear some of the delicious clips on their website by going into “Demo.” Unfortunately, it costs £50 or so and I just can’t afford to spend that in American. 50 USD, maybe after a few months of saving.

So we’ll see how this unfolds. Because I want it, with all the wanting I have right now. I may officially fail as a potential tertiary.

Now I want one! And I’ve just told all my family I don’t want anything for Christmas, maybe I’ll have to save up too. I’m currently working my way through the Jeeves and Wooster DVDs again. Did you see Stephen’s role in Bones s2? I also recommend Qi if you come across it, I’m not sure it’s shown in the US, it’s a comedy quiz show that Stephen Fry hosts.

Yes, he was so good as the psychiatrist! I’m an inadvertent Stephen Fry fan…he just keeps popping up in things and I love it! I haven’t seen Qi, though I heard of it. 🙂

I have a bad habit of incorporating noise or talking into my dreams while I’m sleeping. I think this alarm clock wouldn’t work well for me (and would probably mess with my dreams).

I like the Phillips progressive light alarm clock. It’s another of those “I want it!” things, but I can’t justify the price when I’ve got a perfectly good alarm clock. It blares so loud I can’t easily ignore it in the morning (although once or twice it’s turned into a car or house alarm in my dreams).

That is a lot of cash for an alarm clock – around $100.

It is so expensive for Americans to buy anything from the UK now. And if you ordered it you might not get it for ages anyway thanks to the bloody postal strike.

QI is a decent show, certainly a lot better than most stuff you could be watching, but I got a bit bored with it after a season and never bothered watching it again. Jeeves and Wooster (along with A Bit of Fry and Laurie) had the same problem. Both were really, really good for the first couple of seasons, okay for the third, and then not very good for the fourth. Something about Fry and Laurie that makes them fall apart after three years.

@ Eric, it also beeps afterwards, which is handy. I sometimes incorporate beeps into my dream. 🙂

@ Catherine, good point. I wouldn’t get it soon anyway, unless they ship from within the states.

@ Andrew. True. With Jeeves and Wooster anyway. I tend to only watch Bit of Fry & Laurie via YouTube. 🙂

If you can find out what stores carry it, I get over to London once or twice a year for work. I don’t have a trip scheduled at the moment, but I could probably pick one up for you next time I go. It would at least save you the shipping.

Warning, however – the exchange rate is horrible at the moment (thank you, Mr. Bush). Catherine’s right: 50 pounds sterling will set you back $100 if not more.

Am I being a bit dense, isn’t it only £30 plus p&p, which is closer to $75? Still a lot for a clock, but enough left over from the $100 mentioned above to get some really good tea and scones! By the way IMO QI really picked up again towards the end of season 2 and currently is pretty on fire in season 5! But I think Andrew is right about J&W and F&L.

You’re right – 30 pounds, not 50. I need to get my eyes checked.

Indeed, 30, not 50. I don’t know why I misread that. Still more than I’m prepared to pay for an alarm clock, but it makes it seem more in reach.

FZ, I may take you up on that offer….
