I suppose this is kind of a follow-up to yesterday’s post about saving money thanks to family and sales.
As I’ve mentioned previously, my parents came to visit on Sunday. It was really nice to see them again. It’s strange knowing that I’m not going to be living with them again (Inshallah, God willing, as Muslims say. I know it’s an English saying too, but it sounds better in Arabic).
In preparation for their visit, Mr. Micah and I scurried around the apartment, making sure things looked nice. It was the first time they’d seen it since it was empty and we were signing the lease. We wanted to reassure them that we weren’t living in squalor or anything.
Our apartment is never really dirty, but it cleans up real good. And even though it’s small, it works for us. Very pretty, not too cluttered. My mom said “You have a lot, but it all seems to fit right,” or words to that effect.
Showing it to them helped me see again how much I like it, what a great little place it is. And then having it all straightened up makes me enjoy it even more. It’s not much to some people, perhaps, but it’s home. It’s the place where Mr. Micah and I have nested. And I love it to bits and little pieces!
(I’ve also been feeling particularly appreciative of Mr. Micah lately. I don’t know if it’s because he’s supportive or cute or what, but it’s nice)

One of the best feelings is being happy with what you have. I’ll drink to that any day.
