It strikes me that this blog has been all over the place in the last few days…quilting, finance, work, whatnot, book reviews, maybe a little writing. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, I had just originally started it as a financial entity, a way to keep myself accountable in an online community (even if nobody’s listening).
I gave myself permission to branch out, and that’s good. I started a separate blog for my “happiness project.” That’s also good. This is me, a multi-faceted person. Sometimes I worry that my blog isn’t about anything. But it’s about a number of things, that number is just determined by my interest. So I won’t feel constrained to only write about one thing (though that can be good) and I won’t feel pressured to write about something that doesn’t interest me.
That said, a few notes on finance and achievement. We’ll start with the achievement. When I first began this blog last month, I used to post a couple achievements. It’s a good way to see successes (even little ones) in the day. It reframes the day, I think.
Achievement #1: In the last 4 days, I’ve read 13 chapters of the Mysteries of Udolpho. I’m sure it’ll be more exciting later, but the opening set-up took a long time. Things are starting to get moving. First few days it was about persevering.
Achievement #2: I set up three boxes to help us be more organized. 1 for outgoing mail. 1 for receipts. 1 for things which need action (like bills).
Achievement #3: Today I learned how we bill tenants for submetered water and electric. It’s actually kind of fun to come up with the numbers and compare it between companies. Plus, only 6 or 7 tenants submeter, most fit within normal parameters and theirs is included in the rent. Restaurants use a lot of water!
Achievement #4: I just got up and moved my receipts to my briefcase. I’ll do some final balancing tomorrow at work. Work out what we spend during August and such. It’s psychologically easier because I’m handling invoices for thousands and thousands of dollars. We’ll use this to make a budget!
Achievement #5: What the heck, this isn’t a big one, but I got some piecing done on the border of my big special quilt.
Achievement #6: Also, Mr. Micah and I went on a walk tonight. Part of my goal of getting outside more often and exercising together, even in little ways.
Oh, and kudos to Mr. Micah, because he’s doing the dishes right now.
